Just in time for Halloween...I discovered these beautiful, dark, haunting oil paintings by Brad Woodfin. Amazing how he captures each animal's expression...and the light! Gorgeous!

Pewter
With the holidays swiftly approaching; I've got tableware on my mind tonight! I love arranging tables for dinner parties; if only I could have them more often!! I don't know what it is about pewter serving ware that I am so drawn to. Perhaps its the perfect combination of folk-art and classic beauty that it flawlessly achieves. Or maybe it is the proudly displayed makers-marks that instantly give a new piece a feeling of weight, history, and character. Regardless; it's beautiful. Today I'm sharing some of my favorite pieces from Match. Enjoy!

Part 2: Content '09
The last little bits from Content '09 that. This set definitely has some of my favorites.
AK Vintage
Such a beautiful show! I really hope they make this an annual event. Maybe someday they will do a shelter-themed show as well! That would be so amazing! Enjoy browsing all these amazing websites! I'm sure there will be something in there to brighten your day!

Part 1: Conent '09
I was able to attend Content 09 this past weekend thanks to Rebecca and it was so much fun! I can't believe what a huge hit it was! So many people ended up attending; I would be curious to know what the final head count was when all was said and done. That being said I had a few favorites I will be sharing with you over the next couple of days. Enjoy!

Some of these were new designers...well...at least new to me. Others were old favorites that I was happy to see. I think my favorite room in he whole place belonged to Smith & Bybee; but, they are too new to have an online presence yet. I noticed a lot of western themes. Tons of leather, fringes, and dusty corners. A few of the rooms looked like long-lost sets from There Will be Blood. Certainly not the Ralph Lauren take on western wear; much darker. Stay tuned! More mini-highlights to come later this week!

What I'm Reading
Right now I'm in the middle of real food by Nina Planck. I'm really enjoying her take on un-complicating what to eat. Simple, whole foods like milk, cheese, eggs, and butter are presented as good for you. It has been very interesting to hear the flip side of the low-fat trend. I'm not sure that I'm ready to switch to whole raw-milk, but it's encouraging to hear that maybe those comfort foods we all love and have been eating for centuries aren't causing the obesity epidemic in America. Maybe 'real' food is actually good for us an all the low-fat, low-cal, low-carb science foods are the ones making us sick.
I don't know about you, but I'm going to make myself a piece of whole wheat toast and not feel a bit guilty about slathering on some real Tillamook butter.

Boutique Peek
Last Friday I got to go to First Friday on East Burnside and ducked into Emily's beautiful shop Sword + Fern. Emily is a curator of all things lovely and just a bit wild. The jewelry she crafts is lust-worthy. I carried home two brass duck book-ends for DB's office. From her displays to her craft to her baubles...this shop is brimming with inspiration! Enjoy a peek inside...
I have a little spoon just like that! I think I need to add that pewter plate too...
If I was a braver person I would buy a giant piece of flannel and fashion a shawl to pin closed with one of these giant safety pins!
mmm...I think this bell-jar is tolling loud and clear!
I find maps to be so lovely. I love dreaming about places to go and recalling places I've been...
Ceramic hexagon tiles arranged to look like honeycomb? Genius!!
Make sure to visit next time you're in Portland!

Papergirl Portland
Papergirl had their gallery open on First Friday last week at Second Nature on East Burnside. I was on-hand to document the event; it was so much fun! (pssst...this is just the beginning of that fantastic free art-to-the-masses delivered on bicycle that I posted about earlier)
Just a fraction of the art rolled up and ready to be dolled out! Abe received over 200 submissions! You can check out more pics of the opening here.
